Phaedra Clothing seeks a balance between elegance of form and functionality. The collection is inspired by Japanese and Scandinavian design which combines attention to detail with practical, every day wear. I aim to create clothing that can be worn comfortably, accentuating the character of the wearer.
A garment is a narrative, a piece that changes over time. The linen becomes softer and more supple, the colours lighten subtly, a piece becomes imbued with memories; these signify to me a long and happy relationship between garment and wearer.
The palette of the collection conjures grey seascapes and low light, the nature of both melancholy and happiness that the Cornish coastline inspires. The linen is hand dyed and the patina of the dye bath is left on the fabric, echoing the wabi sabi philosophy that champions natural and simple imperfections.
I moved to Falmouth to study seven years ago, and I’ve been inspired by its creative community. Phaedra is a new venture, and I have an open studio-shop on Penryn High Street.
