Hunted almost to extinction in the Northeast Atlantic, this iconic species seen around our south-west shores, is now highly protected. Numbers may finally be increasing following intensive research, protection measures and the cessation of hunting. Colin will guide us through the world of the basking shark as seen through the eyes of a field researcher - is this a conservation success story or a flash in the pan?

Sharks and rays are amongst the largest, most charismatic and fascinating of marine animals. They are also one of the most threatened groups of vertebrates. The Shark Trust is the UK charity dedicated to safeguarding the future of global shark populations through positive change. Paul will introduce us to the work of the Trust, to the current state of play in shark conservation and discuss why maintaining a positive outlook is so important to conservation
