Night of the Living Dead (1968)

Upon release in 1968, this low budget zombie movie heralded a new dawn in horror filmmaking – one that planted an enduring image of terror in the public consciousness.

 

Romero’s legendary tale of a zombie attack on an isolated farmhouse may have subsequently been out-stripped in the blood and gore stakes, but it remains one of the most chilling and claustrophobic offerings of the genre, and myriad imitations have done little to deaden it’s impact.
