Dir Mike Leigh | 2018 | UK | 154 mins | Historical Drama | 12A

‘One of the defining moments of its age’. On the 16th of August 1819, a crowd of 60,000 peaceful protesters were charged by government cavalry, resulting in an estimated 15 deaths and 700 wounded. Referred to as the Peterloo Massacre, this pivotal tragedy’s legacy includes the foundation of the Manchester Guardian newspaper and the passage of the Great Reform Act through Parliament 13 years later.

Written and directed by Mike Leigh (Mr Turner, Happy-Go-Lucky) and starring Maxine Peake (Funny Cow, Silk) and Rory Kinnear (Skyfall, Black Mirror), this ambitious historical epic presents the story of the massacre on a grand scale in the run up to its 200 year anniversary, and will premiere at the 75th Venice International Film Festival.
