Julie Oats

I find inspiration in the landscape, initial drawings and photographs which evolve into images that use the iconography of place. My marks and gestures embellish a surface that at times is lost and then found in the execution of the work. There is little pictorial depth in my work, but predominately areas of pattern and colour that are used to emphasise an emotion or sensation. My intention is to simplify what I see and experience; I am searching for a sense of place and inherited memory.
