The Poly Pottery 

Our Community Pottery is a creative hub of courses and services open to every skill level within ceramics. Our studio runs friendly and inclusive workshops throughout the year, as well as offering clay sales and a kiln firing service available for all makers across Cornwall.


From kids make-and-take workshops through to specialised glazing courses and Raku firings, there is always something new happening in the Pottery - to keep up to date with what’s on, check out our workshops and make sure to follow @polypottery_falmouth on Instagram! 



 

Courses

Mondays – Beginner’s Handbuilding


Perfect for getting to grips with the basics of ceramics, our beginners’ course covers all the basics of handbuilding and explores a variety of building methods and decoration techniques. This course is ideal for people looking to get into working with clay or searching for a welcoming refresher!



Tuesdays & Thursdays – Throwing


Our throwing courses can be tailored to all abilities. Whether you’re an experienced maker looking for a little guidance or a complete beginner starting from scratch, each of our throwing courses only have 3 students per class ensuring you get as much time on the wheel as possible!



Wednesdays - Intermediate & Advanced


Our Wednesday sessions are designed for those with more experience wanting to take their skills to the next level. Whether you’re looking to explore new building methods, firing techniques, or just looking for some guidance in developing your making, our intermediate and advanced classes are ready and waiting!



Fridays - Drop-in Session


A relaxed, untaught session for throwers and handbuilders to experiment and create. These sessions are best suited for people with some experience with their preferred method of making. Although this is not a taught session there is always a member of staff on hand to answer any questions. 


Use of the studio, tools, wheels, whirlers/banding wheels, sticks, batts, brushes, ect. are all included and free to use as you make. Clay can be purchased separately from just £8.50 for a 13lb bag of reclaim, use of slips, glazes, underglazes, and kiln firings all purchased separately.

Summer in the Pottery 

When the sun is out and the days are longer the Pottery's schedule shifts and our 4 & 6 week courses go on pause! Starting in July we have two weeks each year of Intensive courses, and after a short break, August is jam-packed full of Kids Workshops and Adult Taster Sessions.


For Summer 2025 our courses are: 


3-Day Intensive Throwing - Deep dive into the world of throwing with 3 days of back-to-back making, allowing you to to get to grips with the wheel in a fully immersive way.


3-Day Intensive Raku Course - Explore the art of Raku from start to finish. Across two days of making and one unforgettable day of firing, you'll handcraft and refine your own ceramic pieces and experiment with bespoke Raku glazes designed for dramatic one-of-a-kind results!

Specialist 6-Week Courses 

From September 2025 we will be running 6-week Specialist Glazing courses in the pottery. Keep an eye on the website and our socials to be the first to know when tickets go live! 


6-Week Glaze Technology Course - Starting: Thursday 11th September 2025


6-Week Crystalline Glaze Course - Starting: Thursday 30th October 2025 


 

 

 

Pottery Info

Kiln Firings & Clay Sales 

Whether you’re an at-home maker looking for somewhere for your work to be bisque or glaze fired, an experienced maker looking to test some glazes, or you have a project with a tight deadline, we offer a sliding scale for pricing and a quick turnaround. **Please note that we don’t offer combined firings e.g from greenware straight through to glaze**


We offer a range of clays for sale and are often experimenting with new bodies, our studio stoneware clay starts from £17 for a 12.5kg bag. We also stock air dry, earthenware, grogged stoneware, toasted, plus speciality clays like paper clay.

Where to Find Us

The Poly Pottery is an annex separate to the main Poly building at the Well Lane car park end of New Street. On Foot you can get here from Church Street via Well Lane, past shops Valentine's Ice Cream and Dills Cafe, or from Swanpool Street. If you plan to drive, Well Lane car park is a short-stay Cornwall Council pay and display site.
