Poly Stories is a community heritage project, kindly supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
Launched in September 2020, the project invited all residents of Falmouth and beyond, young and old, to submit their memories of The Poly. Delve in to the audio recordings below to hear stories from past and current volunteers, trustees, staff, members and visitors.
Since it began life in 1833 as a society for the encouragement of technological and scientific innovation, The Poly has been a centre for the academic, artistic and cultural life of Falmouth. The aim of the Poly Stories project was to enable the local community to remember, share, and save their memories for future generations.
Some contributors have reflected generally on what The Poly means to them, while others focus on specific events, eras and developments.
The stories have been arranged below into a playlist of loosely chronological order. Some are voiced by the contributor, others by actors, and they have been edited for clarity. You can listen right through from the start, or hop between them as you wish, either on the player below or on our Soundcloud page.
Thank you to all the participants who shared their stories, and the production team who put them together.
We hope you enjoy listening, and if you have any comments or questions, please email info@thepoly.org.
