Projects

Pottery boxes

During the Covid19 lockdown, we worked on new ways to engage with our community. We produced Poly Pottery Boxes, containing tools, clay and worksheets which can be delivered straight to people's homes. Thanks to funding from Arts Council England with the National Lottery, we were delighted to be able to offer free pottery boxes to individuals who might not otherwise be able to access hands-on creativity and the wellbeing benefits it brings. Over 130 free boxes were given out through partnerships with local schools and community organisations.

The project continues with our pottery box also available for purchase through a 'buy one, give one' scheme. For every box sold we put another one into our pool for free boxes. If you know someone who would benefit from a pottery box and cannot otherwise access hands-on creativity, please get in touch at info@thepoly.org.

Our pottery box teaches you how make a simple pinch pot and how to combine two pinch pots to make a figure. Our aim - still, despite ongoing postponements due to Covid! - is to one day bring the figures made through this project together for an exhibition at The Poly - our 'Clay Kemeneth', which is Cornish for 'community in clay'.

Pottery boxes are available to purchase from our Guild Shop online.

Poly Stories

In 2021 we launched a new heritage project to collect the Falmouth's 'Poly Stories'.

The goal of 'Poly Stories' was to invite all residents of Falmouth and beyond, young and old, to submit their memories and copies of photos or  documents that would add to our own archive. The stories collected feature in our online exhibition.

The Future of...

‘The Future Of …’- is an exciting and thought-provoking programme of talks and events exploring how social, environmental, and technological developments may affect our lives and our planet in the near future.

The series is the brainchild of Professor Alan Cummings, The Poly’s new President. The aim of the series is for The Poly is to strengthen its reputation as a place where curious, creative, innovative and concerned people gather to discuss the opportunities and threats that face humanity over the next 20 or 30 years.

Our next event in this series is 'The Future of ...Tourism and the Cornish Economy on Monday 4th November 6.00pm. Don't miss it!

In conjunction with the 'Future of...Work' event and complementary Falmouth At Work Exhibition that took place in July 2024, we have created an online book for you to enjoy!
