"My paintings are literal, as I don’t feel I can improve on what I see only interpret. The canvases are flat, with no texture because when I look at the land, always in my imagination I can stroke the landscape, run my hand across, to feel it and touch it and I can do that across my canvas.
"The finished pictures are the fruit of extended periods spent walking and drawing along the coast, distilling the dramatic landforms and wildness of the cliffs and sea to create contemporary paintings.
“I find that sketching a place has a far stronger impact than taking photographs. The kinesthetic motion reinforces the feel of the land creating a physical connection with my surroundings. My drawings activate my memories and leave my imagination free when I come to complete my paintings."
