Archive & Collections

The Society was formed in 1833, and in two years the building had been erected for a single purpose: an annual exhibition in the Polytechnic Hall of developments in science and the arts.

These exhibitions continued until 1944, when the Society realized that it must change its nature. The Hall became a theatre, and the Arts Centre was formed. Without our historic building there would be no records - in fact there would be no Poly.

Up until recently The Poly used to issue a regular glossy magazine with erudite articles on art and science, some articles, including ones on the Tukes and the Man Engine, from the last three magazines can be viewed here.
