"I love oil paint. It is the movement, the spontaneity the potential for revision which engages me.  I love mixing paint, scraping back.  I listen to music; but I don't hear it some of the time when I stand at the easel. So silence is important too, and plays some role in the resolution of a painting.

Of course some people ask where my inspiration comes from?  Sometimes I'd like to know myself, but accepting that it comes from everywhere is all part of the territory for me.   Moment by moment, fugitive confidence; but wonderful when it returns.  Sometimes I wish I could say I drew as a child as so many artists do, but I didn't.  I rubbed holes in the paper, wrote stories, and played with fabric without sewing."
