Falmouth History Archive // Falmouth and D-Day

On D-Day, 6 June 1944, Allied forces launched “Operation 'Overlord” a combined naval, air and land assault on Nazi-occupied France. This required considerable preparation and by 1943 there were over 1,000,000 US troops in the UK. Many were stationed in the Falmouth area.

Roderick de Normann is a former regular soldier and civil servant in the Ministry of Defence with a passion for military history. He has published 3 books examining aspects of WW2, with a fourth on the way focussing on the extraordinary achievements of the Americans in Cornwall. Hear their story first at this fascinating talk.

Followed by an informal opportunity to talk to Roderick in the Poly Bar.
