The culmination of five years of filming, this remarkable documentary from Jeremy Williams (Restless Flights, Orphans of Burma’s Cyclone) provides a privileged insight into the coming-of-age of a Native American teen, George Dull Knife, as he confronts the challenges of growing up in one of the poorest parts of America amidst a climate of rising tensions and social injustice. 

 

We follow George as he becomes politically active within the American Indian Movement and finds himself clashing with both the police and his tribal council as he prepares to assume leadership of his family. His story, captured in an immediate, observational style, is interwoven with visually arresting animations based on paintings by his father, emphasising the film’s themes of family and legacy.
