Clone Your Clothes: Pattern Cutting Workshop

Do you have a favourite garment you wish you could recreate? 

In this hands-on workshop, led by experienced pattern cutter and maker Helen Shine of Dot n Cross, you’ll learn how to create a custom sewing pattern from your most-loved top or dress, without taking it apart.

Helen brings years of industry know how and a passion for helping people create unique clothes that truly fit and last. She’ll guide you step-by-step through the process of tracing your garment, adding seam allowances, and making minor modifications like adjusting the length or adding a seam line, so you leave with a fully usable sewing pattern you can make again and again.

While we won’t be sewing the garment during the session, we’ll cover construction tips and walk through the best order of assembly so you’re ready to get started at home. If your garment is more complex, you may need a little extra time after the class to finalise all the pattern pieces.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

• Your favourite top, shirt or dress - send me a photo once you've booked, of the garment you're thinking of making to hello@dotncross.com
• I strongly advise you to bring something simple - with just a few pattern pieces, e.g. front, back, sleeve and pocket.
• Something in cotton or a sturdy-ish fabric will be best if this is your first time tracing. We wouldn’t recommend bringing a jersey or stretch garment, or a complex tailored garment.
• Please bring along something old and loved from your wardrobe or something vintage - we cannot trace recently purchased garments from the last 5-10 years.

WHO IS THIS CLASS SUITABLE FOR? 

This is an intermediate class. This course is aimed at confident dressmakers who have experience working with commercial patterns. You will get a lot more out of the class if you’ve already made several garments before and got a grasp of garment construction. A £1 Poly Fund payment is added to each ticket sold. A 50p booking fee is also applied per ticket for online and telephone transactions.
