Science & Atlantic Economy

Confirmed speaker: Philippa Hoskin, Nature Recovery Manager, Cornwall Council, whose work sits at the intersection of environmental stewardship, planning and sustainable development. She will be joined by two further speakers, to be announced, including at least one company specialising in the monitoring of the marine environment, bringing practical experience of the scientific and technical work that underpins offshore development.

The growth of the Atlantic economy will depend not only on engineering and investment, but also on science, regulation and environmental evidence. This seminar examines how ecological assessment, marine monitoring, consenting and environmental regulation shape what can be built and how projects are managed throughout their lifetime. It will also explore the emergence of a significant new economic sector, as demand grows for environmental data, specialist monitoring, marine consultancy and scientific expertise to support the sustainable development of the Celtic Sea and the wider Atlantic region.
