Autonomy, Space & the Ocean: Who Runs the System?

The future of offshore activity will not just be shaped by what is built at sea, but by the technologies used to operate, monitor and control it. Autonomous vessels, drones, robotics, satellites and advanced communications are changing how people can work across increasingly large areas of ocean.

This seminar asks: who will run these systems, and from where? It will explore how technologies developed across the maritime, defence and space sectors are beginning to come together, and why Cornwall could have a distinctive role in this emerging control and monitoring layer.

Speakers include Captain Aidan Riley, Commanding Officer designate at RNAS Culdrose, and Richard Pemberton, Principal Naval Architect at Solis Marine Engineering. Drawing on operational and engineering perspectives, they will examine how offshore systems are changing and what Cornwall’s combination of maritime expertise, aviation, communications and growing space sector could mean for Falmouth, Penryn and the wider region.
