‘Girls Trip’ to Svalbard with Cat Burford & Wild Voices

Wild Voices by Host Nicole Herridge FRGS of Tiny Gatherings introduces Cat Burford, widely known as The Molar Explorer.

Cat Burford is a dentist practising in West Cornwall. Alongside her clinical and out-of-hours emergency work, she teaches expedition dentistry with World Extreme Medicine and has delivered humanitarian dental care, training and health education in remote communities around the world.

In January 2025, Cat became the 13th woman to ski solo and unsupported to the South Pole, fulfilling a childhood dream first sparked by her geography teacher, Allyson Taylor. Her adventurous spirit and work as an expedition and humanitarian dentist have also taken her across deserts, mountains and remote corners of the globe.

In spring 2026, Cat led an all-female team on a 21-day, self-guided ski expedition across a remote region of northwest Svalbard in the High Arctic. Known as Girls’ Trip, the expedition set out to show that adventure can be ambitious and challenging while also being collaborative, inclusive and joyful. Along the way, the team worked with scientists to support research into the changing Arctic and women's health in extreme environments. The expedition was recognised with the Royal Geographical Society's prestigious Gino Watkins Memorial Award.

Through her expeditions and storytelling, Cat hopes to inspire others to embrace adventure, challenge stereotypes and recognise that you don't have to be the strongest, fastest or most experienced to pursue an ambitious goal. She is equally passionate about drawing attention to our changing planet and encouraging greater curiosity and connection with the natural world.

The expedition was recognised by the Royal Geographical Society with the Gino Watkins Memorial Award.

The ladies are now working hard to produce a film to inspire 100,000 young people to be curious, see what’s possible and connect with wild places and our changing climate.

To support this £150 from our ticket sales will be going directly to the Crowdfunder.
