Dir. Lucas Paleocrassas | 2026 | 88 mins | Greek with English Subtitles
Bugboy follows 16-year-old George, an introverted Greek teenager whose fascination with insects offers refuge from the complications of family, friendship and growing up. Director Lucas Paleocrassas stays close to George without turning him into a problem to be solved, allowing his curiosity, humour and wonderfully particular way of looking at the world to lead the film.
Paleocrassas is an Athens-based documentary filmmaker whose work frequently explores young people navigating identity, isolation and belonging. His previous feature, Final Year, won awards at the Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Young People and AegeanDocs.
A CFF Director’s Pick from Sheffield DocFest 2026, Bugboy was one of those films we saw and immediately knew we wanted to bring to Cornwall. Following its UK premiere at Sheffield, we’re delighted to present the UK preview of this wonderful documentary at Cornwall Film Festival 2026. The film won Best Greek Film and the City Stories Award at Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival.
'Bugboy is a natural crowd-pleaser: it would be tough to find a documentary of late with more unending charm'. CineEuropa
"Funny, affectionate and refreshingly small-scale, this is a film about paying attention to other people, yourself and, occasionally, to the creatures crawling around under your feet. " A giant hug of a film" Louise Fox.
