We’re delighted to welcome back a “weird polymathic genius” (the Independent), “one of the funniest, smartest comic minds in the country” (Stephen Merchant) and star and screenwriter of one of the greatest British films of all time (Richard Curtis) to the Book Festival.
When Tim Key jetted off to Los Angeles in the autumn of 2024 to work on a new sitcom project he stayed sane by writing poems and talking to his friend and (Falmouth-based) publisher Emily Juniper on the phone. When he delivered the poems that came out of the experience, she then did the honourable thing and lovingly filled and designed the pages of a beautifully-sized green book around them.
Amongst the glitz and glamour of twenty-first century Hollywood, Key’s poems combine the craziest of his adventures with infinitesimal moments of loneliness and boredom. The result is a hymn to laundrettes and dive bars, a come-and-get-me plea to Audrey Hepburn… or frankly any of the greats.
About Tim Key
Tim Key, winner of the 2009 Perrier Award, has written and performed nine solo shows, most recently Loganberry, hailed by The Guardian as a “blissfully funny set from a stand-up in total control.” On screen he is best known as Sidekick Simon in This Time with Alan Partridge, and for Witchfinder, Inside Number 9, Peep Show and See How They Run. His stage work includes Tree at the Old Vic and Art.
This year he co-wrote and starred in the acclaimed The Ballad of Wallis Island and also appeared in Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17. He also appears in the new Sky TV series The Paper, a spin-off from the US Office from September 2025.
