Where Words End…. Inspiring Music for Choir and Organ

“Where words end, music speaks”.  So said Hans Christian Anderson.  Join the Swan Singers chamber choir under their conductor Tricia Rees-Jones and Julian McNamara on the mighty All Saints organ in a feast of music to uplift your soul.  From William Byrd’s ‘Sing Joyfully’ and William Harris’s ‘Faire is the Heaven’ to Arvo Pärt’s ‘The Deer’s Cry’ and Bach’s great A minor fugue BWV 543, allow yourself to be taken on a glorious musical journey as we explore works which console, heal and inspire.  This concert is a fundraiser for the hospitality facilities at All Saints Church.

Based in the beautiful city of Wells in Somerset, the Swan Singers are a group of local singers who perform repertoire from the Renaissance to the present day. Our concerts blend the familiar with new discoveries and we have given first performances of works by Ian Assersohn, Hywel Davies and Ian Crawford.  Their conductor, Tricia Rees-Jones, began her career as a pianist and singer, performing throughout Europe with the prizewinning Joyful Company of Singers.   Her conducting career began when she was persuaded to take on the role of Director of Music for a small choral society and through this became an active member of the Association of British Choral Directors, studying with their Director of Training, Dr Amy Bebbington. Now based in Somerset, she directs the Swan Singers, continues her singing with Vox Coelestis chamber choir under Nigel Short, and appears regularly with the Sherborne Chamber Choir.

Julian McNamara FRCO was awarded organ scholarships at St Michael’s Tetbury, New College Oxford and Manchester Cathedral, returning to the latter as Assistant Organist after his postgraduate studies at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Geneva Conservatoire.  He has performed, broadcast, examined and/or conducted throughout Europe, and in South Africa, Russia, China and Hong Kong and is a published composer and arranger.
