A mixed show of painting, sculpture and printmaking that explores a shared delight in the natural world. Reece Ingram brings his deep knowledge and passion for animals and birds to life in exuberant and joyful ceramic sculptures. This is echoed in the striking and intricate monochrome lino prints of Lou Tonkin with her depictions of creatures in their habitat, and the subtle and beautiful colour combinations of Adrian Holmes’ botanical Japanese woodblock prints; while the ‘plein air’ oil paintings of Minnie McNaughton are rooted in her observation of creeks and coast and reflect her fascination in observing the transience of nature.
Inspired by her locality of the Fal estuary and Roseland Peninsula, Minnie McNaughton paints loose, plein air, land and seascapes in oils, enjoying the challenge of responding directly to what she sees. Observation is at the heart of her practice which transfers to still life in the studio.
Reece Ingram is a sculptor - of Clay, wood and stone - whose notable commissions over the years include large sculptures for the Eden project, Grizedale Forest and the Princess Diana Memorial playground in London. He is inspired by the birds and mammals of Cornwall. He is excited by all the aspects of the sculptural object, form, line, surface, texture, colour and the tactile nature of material.
Lou Tonkin is a printmaker producing lino cut prints inspired by the beautiful environment of her Cornish home. Her work focuses on movement, tone and texture to facilitate a deeper connection to the subject and the wild elements in that moment. Communicating this love of nature is the foundation of her work.
Adrian Holmes is a printmaker devoted to Japanese printmaking and Sosaku hanga. This latest body of work, Greenhouse & Stone, explores botanical themes and his evolving relationship with them. The work explores shifting perspectives and viewpoints, reflecting on how these remarkable things take root around us.
