Falmouth’s connections to the transatlantic trade in enslaved African people, as well as to slavery in the Americas, have long been overlooked.
Join Chloe Phillips to discover new insights into the local area’s connections to these barbaric practices. Learn about the role Royal African Company official Thomas Corker played in bringing enslaved Africans to Falmouth, discover the packet service’s hitherto unexplored connections to slavery, and find out in detail about a family who settled in the local area while still managing their Nevis sugar plantations.
Chloe Phillips is from Falmouth and is a PhD researcher with the University of Leicester. Prior to beginning her studies, she worked for Cornwall’s archive service for over a decade.
