Dir. Felix van Groeningen | USA 2018 | 120 min | 15
Timothée Chalamet and Steve Carell star in this raw and powerful tale based on the acclaimed memoirs from a father and son dealing with the son’s addiction to crystal meth.
18 year old Nic (Chalamet) is popular, good looking, and has been accepted into every college to which he has applied. When his dad David (Carell) discovers Nic has been living a secret life, he does everything he can to save him from his crystal meth addiction. But the road to recovery is never a straight one – it’s long and twisted and filled with potholes.
Insightful and matter of fact, Nic and David’s journey is never sugarcoated – we see the difficult, messy place of blame, embarrassment and fear that addiction can be. But we also see the hope, the acceptance, and the encouragement of love over judgment and shame. With phenomenal performances from Chalamet and Carell, Beautiful Boy is a heartbreaking and refreshingly honest story about the aching responsibilities of parenting, and the lengths and limitations of love.
Tickets: £7.75 / £6.00 (inc. Poly Fund)
Please note: the screening at 10:30 is the PARENT & BABY showing. There are no concessions available for this screening.
