National Storytelling Week: Story Slam

The Story Slam is an Open Mic event where you, the audience, have the opportunity  to tell a true story from your own life.  The theme for the evening is ‘Change’, so if you have a five minute true story around this topic that you would like to share with us, make sure you put your name in the hat when you arrive.  If your name is pulled out of the hat, you get to tell us. The story can be anything as long as it is from your personal experience, it happened to you. Could be you tried to change and it all went spectacularly wrong. Could be you tried to change and it all went spectacularly right.

Please note that this is not a poetry event and all stories must be told from memory without the aid of notes, written words or props. A bit like sitting around the table at a bar and sharing moments with your friends. The stories can be funny, sad, tragic, thrilling or whatever you bring.

Also, there will be a second hat into which you can submit an anonymous short story that the host will read out on your behalf.  Of course, you can just come and listen to other people tell true stories from their lives.

This is not a competition but if we like your story a lot, we may ask you to come back and tell it at a grand slam in the future. A few rules apply in order to keep it a safe and fun space for all and you can find out more by visiting www.garycordingley.co.uk.
