This exhibition showcases new prints, ceramics, glass and paintings from the well-established Falmouth trio of Sue Davis, Jane Smith and Lesley Harry. The title “Arc” describes their continuous creative dialogue that over 5 years has encouraged sudden changes of practice or revealed unexpected connections. The result is an exhibition that sparks with bold, vibrant colour and dramatic artwork.
Ceramicist Jane Smith builds, grinds and polishes ceramic and glass until they are formed into unique sculptures reflecting our Cornish landscape, whilst her tactile pinchpots with their delicate seams of porcelain hark back to our Clay history.
Painter Sue Davis is at the forefront of Cornwall’s abstract tradition. Using mixed media to unpack shifting perceptions and uncertainties emanating as much from the paint or media as from the questions at the heart of the journey.
Printmaker Lesley Harry’s underlying influence of Matisse and Frost can be seen in Lesley’s screen-prints that are bold, graphic experiments in colour combinations based upon algae, ferns, seeds and lichen that abound in Cornwall. In complete contrast her etchings and monoprints capture the loops, arcs and convulsions of coastal waters and the collision of rock and water.
