Cathy Harrison: Junk Mail Art

Cathy Harrison is a local artist living near Falmouth. Using paper collage, made entirely from up-cycled magazines and junk mail, Cathy captures the remarkable beauty the landscapes of Cornwall have to offer.

Taking what would normally be thrown in the bin and creating something beautiful with it was the inspiration for Cathy’s company Junk Mail Art. Using waste materials such as old magazines and junk mail gave Cathy the perfect platform to start a business that was based around what she loves to do, while also caring for the environment.

Cathy has always been an artist at heart with a love of colour and creativity. When she moved to Cornwall with her family five years ago, the scenery and surroundings were so inspiring that she knew she needed to find a way to create and interpret what she was seeing. The environment being very important to her and with her love of collage, She started tearing up old magazines and junk mail and making paper collages out of them. Having run a design business with her husband for many years, Cathy already had the experience and knowledge she needed to launch her company and fulfil a lifetime ambition of becoming an artist. Junk Mail Art was born with a strong eco friendly theme throughout.  The way torn up paper creates such a wonderful impressionistic portrayal of a landscape never ceases to amaze Cathy.

Cathy is very excited to have her first exhibition at The Poly and will be exhibiting originals, prints and cards.
