NDFC Presents: Cha Cha Real Smooth with Post Show Discussion (15)

Dir. Cooper Raiff | 2022 | US

English with English Subtitles

Fresh out of college and without a clear life path going forward, 22-year-old Andrew is stuck back at home with his family in New Jersey. But if there’s one thing that belongs on his nonexistent résumé, it’s how to get a party started, which lands him the perfect job of motivational dancing at the bar and bar mitzvahs for his younger brother’s classmates.

When Andrew befriends a local mother, Domino, and her daughter, Lola, he finally discovers a future he wants – even if it might not be his own. Cooper Raiff writes, directs and stars alongside Dakota Johnson, Brad Garrett, Leslie Mann and newcomers Vanessa Burghardt and Evan Assante in this tale of unconventional love that brims with emotional honesty.

Neuro-Divergent Film Club

Neuro-Divergent Film Club has two major aims: diversify film audiences and create safe, accessible spaces for neuro-divergent folk to talk about cinema.

We want to share art cinema with the neuro-divergent community and begin building a club for people with a common love of film.

‘Cha Cha Real Smooth’ has been selected to be the NDFC’s first ever screening because we want to highlight the importance of representation on screen. This film is one of the first to feature a character with ASD who is actually played by an Autistic actor.

After the screening we will take the opportunity to talk about our ideas surrounding the film, in a relaxed space!

Will this finally be a nuanced representation of a Neuro-divergence? Or will it follow the same tropes we’ve seen before? Let’s discuss!”

Specialist screening:

This screening will be accompanied by English Subtitles and capped at around 35 tickets to provide a relaxed atmosphere.

If there is anything we can do to make the screening more accessible to you please don't hesitate to email info@thepoly.org.
