Dir. Mikk Magi & Oskar Lehemaa | 2023 | 88 mins plus Q&A
In a remote Estonian village, three children from the city are forced to spend the summer on their grandfather’s farm.
Determined to make them see the simple beauty of country living, he sets them to work, only to have the little scumbags accidentally set loose his prized and thoroughly mistreated cow.
Now they have only 24 hours to find and milk the rogue bovine before its exponentially expanding udders explode and unleash the Lactopalypse.
To make matters worse, a decrepit, disgraced farmer and his chainsaw-wielding gang is also determined to catch the animal, with murder on his mind.
Why does he hate cows so much?
On their epic journey, our heroes must face festival hippies, vicious forest dwellers, strange woodland sprites, heavy-metal rockers and other dangers commonly found in the Estonian countryside. Based on a popular Estonian web series, THE OLD MAN MOVIE is most outrageous, crowd-pleasing stop-motion comedy in years.
The film is accompanied by a video introduction by the director OSKAR LEHEMMA, and the lovely Pat Kelman will join us after the film for a Q&A.
Pat Kelman:
Raised in Portreath, Pat Kelman has been running 606 Distribution from Mevagissey since 2018. One of the few non-London based film distributors, he focuses on powerful films that have a unique voice, artistic authenticity and is keen to promote the work of women in the film industry.
His previous releases include the Swiss/Ukrainian drama OLGA, which became the voice of the UK exhibition industry's support for the Ukrainian humanitarian effort; SYSTEM CRASHER, the German BAFTA and Oscar longlisted film that launched the careers of actress Helena Zengel and director Nora Fingsheidt; and LOVE ACCORDING TO DALVA which won four prizes at Cannes 2022. His next release is the US trans drama MONICA, starring Trace Lysette and Patricia Clarkson directed by Andrea Pallaoro, whose previous film HANNAH starring Charlotte Rampling was one of the first films Pat released in the early days of 606.
