An exhibition of small paintings, reminders - to express our
love.
Self love, the love we have for others, and not just the special people in our lives, the ones we know - but also the ones we don’t know; strangers, neighbours, colleagues, the lonely, those that are struggling…
We are all human, we all feel pain, sadness, possibly loneliness at some point in our lives
…these are the people that need our love the most, in this turbulent world.
I grew up feeling unloved - it’s affected every aspect of my life.
Finally, a diagnosis of Complex PTSD came early 2023, after an extremely stressful year; when I lost my car (I live in the countryside), I was scammed out of my life savings, and my business was effectively shut down overnight - literally. Panic attacks stopped my daily sea swims and anxiety stunted my socialising. Come Christmas 2021, I quietly crumbled, unable to trust anyone to share my feelings with, even though I had three wonderful kids, who loved me. There lies the rub - I couldn’t express my feelings, because I didn’t think I was worthy.
I was asked by a Life Coach, “What lights you up?, what would you love to do?” And my answer was simple; “paint …I would love to be an artist”
So, after fifty plus years of believing I was an unlovable nobody, I began to paint …alongside the long, and sometimes harrowing journey to loving myself.
I’ve come to realise how important it is, to love ourselves, to truly accept who we are, and what made us that way. Allowing ourselves to show vulnerability, and our imperfections makes us much more relatable, accessible even.. and there some forgiveness is in there too…
Many people, in this beautiful, wild and complex ‘place’ called life - do not love themselves …just look around at you.
This exhibition is my little act of love, my reminder to us all. YOU can make a difference in someone’s life by simply expressing love.
It costs nothing.
Let’s drop the judgement.
“What the world needs now, more than ever, is love, sweet love, it’s the only thing that there’s just too little of”
