Undermined

Danny Mellor presents this one man play inspired by the accounts of miners who lived through the 1984 Miners’ Strike - taking you on a rollercoaster of emotions in this controversial industrial struggle.

Meet young miner Dale, his best mate Billy, cheery Tony and the comic relief Jonny.

Fuelled by energetic and engaging storytelling, multi-rolling and direct address, Undermined offers up a message of unity and solidarity. Audiences are invited into the action and taken on the journey that Dale and his friends experienced in this divisive year. Whether you lived through the 80’s or not the piece delivers a powerful and compelling narrative that anyone can relate to.

2024 will be the 40th anniversary of the strike with organisations such as the Orgreave Truth & Justice campaign still fighting for justice for the police brutality endured by many miners. This will be the last ever tour of Undermined.

★★★★ ‘A powerful study of the emotional toll of the miners’ strikes and youthful idealism, Undermined is not to be missed.’

EdFringe Review, Becky Wilson

★★★★ ‘Other actors could do with taking a leaf out of Danny Mellor’s book. The book would be called How to do a One Man Show Properly’

Edfringe Review, Chloe St George

★★★★ ‘a strongly-performed show with a sense of thoroughness and accuracy here, a piece which is partisan but passionate’

The Scotsman, David Pollock

★★★★ ‘Danny exerts a powerful presence on a simple darkened floor with just a chair’

Broadway Baby, Richard Beck

★★★★ ‘Danny Mellor whose grandfather was a miner takes us back to the strike against pit closures of 1984-1985 in a fast often funny monologue called Undermined.’

British Theatre Guide, Keith McKenna
