Dir. Tony Burke | 2024 | 92 mins plus Q&A with Craig Russell | English
A gym-obsessed serial killer murders and eats a local drug dealer for their protein, inadvertently sparking a brutal and bloodthirsty tit-for-tat turf war between rival drug gangs.
Based on his 2014 short film of the same name, PROTEIN is the feature film debut of award-winning commercials/music video director Tony Burke and offers a compelling blend of blackly-comic small-town crime thriller, nuanced character drama and grisly cannibal horror. The film premiered to rave reviews and an incredibly enthusiastic audience reaction at London’s FrightFest 2024.
Starring Craig Russell, Kezia Burrows, Charles Dale, Richard Mylan, Kai Owen, Steven Meo
Written by Tony Burke and Mike Oughton, Directed by Tony Burke
This film will be followed by a Q&A with Craig Russell & Director Tony Burke.
Craig Russell is an actor, writer and producer who has spent the last thirty years working all over the world in film and television. His many appearances include Queen Cleopatra (Netflix), Riches (Amazon Prime), The Last Kingdom (Netflix) and Dream Team (Sky One). He has produced for film and television and is a published children’s author.
Craig lives in Falmouth with his wife Kate and their two young sons, Teddy and Henry.
Tony Burke stumbled upon a career in advertising as a copywriter in Soho in the 90’s after false starts as a money broker and newspaper reporter. He began writing and directing in 2011 with a four-minute short called 'The Fox' which debuted at Raindance. ‘PROTEIN’ - based on his 2014 short film of the same name - is his first feature. In 2023 he published a novel ‘Hotel Ophelia’ and lives in Brighton with his partner and two children.
This is his first time in Cornwall since he was six.
This film is currently unrated, for now we would recommend 18+ only.
