Dir. Quentin Masters | 1978 | 95 mins | English
Gather the girls and dust off your sequins this Valentine’s Day as we head to the what was billed as “the hottest disco in town” for a screening of Jackie Collins’ The Stud (1978), where 'satisfaction is guaranteed'. Watch Fontaine Khaled (Joan Collins) run rings around gigolo for hire, Tony Blake.
The evening will feature surprising and illuminating talks by Dr Jo Parsons and Dr Julie Ripley from Falmouth University, on how the bonkbuster spiced up women’s bedrooms in the decadent age of DISCO.
Dr Jo Parsons is Senior Lecturer in English and Creative Writing at Falmouth University. She is an expert on romantic fiction, and is currently writing a book on the bonkbuster. Her books include ’Doomed Romances’ and ’13 Cornish Ghost Stories.’
Dr Julie Ripley is course leader for Costume Design for Film & TV at Falmouth University. She is interested in everyday dress, onscreen and off, and has published on surf culture, horror films and more recently, Succession.
