‘Arlodhes A Shalott’ or ‘Lady of Shalott’ is a new song cycle in the Romantic style written by Cornwall-based composer Matthew Thomason for piano and solo voice.
The work is a trailblazing new Cornish translation of Tennysons’ masterpiece poem ‘The Lady of Shalott’ put to beautiful music and performed by Thomason and singer Elizabeth Freeborn.
Thomason is an international touring composer and writes for solo piano, theatre and film.
Over the past few years, Elizabeth Freeborn has mesmerised audiences across the UK with her ethereal and mystical vocal style, particularly singing in the Cornish language.
This new work is a must-see for those interested in the legends of King Arthur and the music is a pioneering use of the Cornish language in a classical form.
The suite of music is around 45-60 mins long and the show will also include a set of solo piano music performed by Thomason.
