CFF // The Wife (Creche and Burn)

Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances we are unable to screen The Kindergarten Teacher, we will instead be screening Glenn Close's wonderful performance in The Wife.

Dir. Björn Runge | Sweden/USA/UK  2018 | 100 min | 15
'Crèche and Burn' Screening with young peoples workshop - please drop off your young people at 10.15 for workshop

Glenn Close gives a truly masterful performance as a woman who has spent forty years sacrificing her own talent, dreams and ambitions to support those of her husband - until long-kept secrets are threatened to be exposed.

Joan (Glenn Close) has put her husband Joe (Jonathan Pryce) and his stellar literary career ahead of her own desires. Ignoring his infidelities and excuses made in the cause of his art, she has dealt with his bad behaviour with grace and humour. But the foundations of their marriage have been built upon a set of uneven compromises and, on the eve of Joe's Nobel Prize for Literature, she is forced to confront the biggest sacrifice of her life...

Expect to see Close rewarded for her astonishing performance when awards season arrives - she gives her career best in this poignant, funny and emotional celebration of womanhood, self-discovery and liberation.

This Sunday morning screening coincides with our 'Crèche and Burn' Children’s Workshop; bring your young people along to the Library room at 10.15, and we’ll keep them entertained with animated shorts and a filmmaking workshop while you enjoy The Wife.

PLEASE NOTE: To book in your child for the workshop, please purchase a Creche and Burn adult ticket for the film and a ticket to the workshop for your children here.
