3-Day Intensive Raku Course

Monday 7th, Tuesday 8th & Friday 11th July 10am - 3:30pm (30mins lunch)

Returning for summer 2025, dive into the mesmerising world of Raku over three immersive days at Poly Pottery.

Exploring the ancient Japanese firing technique, pottery is sculpted, shaped, and transformed by the elements.

Guided by our Head Potter Karl Owen, you’ll explore the art of Raku from start to finish. Across two days of making and one unforgettable day of firing, you’ll handcraft and refine your own unique ceramic pieces, experiment with bespoke Raku glazes, designed for dramatic, one-of-a-kind results, experience the thrill of pulling red-hot pots from the flames at 1000°, and understand how to harness smoke and rapid cooling techniques to create rich textures, deep crackles, and breathtaking surfaces.

The unpredictability of fire, the alchemy of heat and smoke, and the organic, tactile beauty of the finished pieces make it unlike anything else in ceramics.

This course is designed for both beginners and experienced potters. A space to experiment, explore, and create in a setting that blends craftsmanship with ancient tradition. Whether you're looking to deepen your practice or simply experience Raku with some expert guidance, this is an opportunity to craft something truly special.
