‘a massage of the eyeballs' says Alex Lovell, ITV West Country news presenter, as she ends the Barnabas story, 1st May 2025.
This is a tale of an epic journey to help ensure the future of Barnabas, the 143 year old dipping lugger & sole original survivor of thousands built along the Cornish coast.
The only real way to preserve an old traditional vessel is to keep her sailing with salty wet decks, knowledgeable crew and cash. Plus a lot of elbow grease, time and keen volunteers.
Come and hear Cornish Maritime Trust skippers share how they were roped into a project of a lifetime after a few pints in the local!
It all started with the words, “why don’t we take Barnabas to the trees in Scotland” ...
This is the tale of how the plan turned into a mission both arduous and thrilling, whilst fulfilling the Trust’s aims to preserve, educate and enjoy Cornwall’s Maritime Heritage.
