How To Be A Fighter Pilot With Paul Tremelling

Join author and former fighter pilot Paul Tremelling as he looks back over a lifelong fascination with one of our most iconic aircraft, the iconic Harrier jet, and provides a vivid, unapologetic and blisteringly authentic account of life in the Fleet Air Arm.

In the cockpit or crew room, the pressure is relentless, the humour merciless. It's no place for the faint-hearted.

Whether landing on a pitching aircraft carrier deck at midnight, or saving troops under fire in Afghanistan, this is a world in which there is no room for self-doubt or delusion; only unshakeable confidence and hard truth. In return, Paul Tremelling and his comrades enjoyed levels of exhilaration unimaginable in any other line of work.

Unique in mastering an extraordinary range of different aircraft across a dizzying array of circumstances and campaigns, Tremelling was Mentioned in Despatches for Action in Afghanistan and is one of the few British pilots to have flown the same aircraft as Tom Cruise in Top Gun: the F/A-18E Super Hornet.

As part of Armed Forces Day The Falmouth Book Festival are running a series of book talks - be sure not to miss out the other events!Combining visceral action with sharp intelligence, and laced with acerbic humour, Harrier brings the hi-octane and unforgiving world of the fighter pilot to life.

'The storytelling wouldn't be out of place in a thriller… a superb read. You won't be able to put it down' Aerospace

Tremelling lights the burners in an extraordinary memoir that leaves most military memoirs sitting behind in the hangar' JAMES BRABAZON, author of My Friend the Mercenary

‘Insightful, laced with humour, and highly recommended' MIKE SUTTON, author of Typhoon

‘Iinspiring, enlightening and thrilling…. A masterpiece' PAUL BEAVER, author of Spitfire People

'Reads like a fast-paced thriller. Harrier launches straight onto the classics shelf of aviation literature' JOHN TEMPLETON SMITH, author of White Lie

Books by Paul Tremelling will be avaliable to buy at the event.
