‘A Potent Place’, a body of work from Ellie Moore HS, features the landscapes of Cornwall and further afield explored across large canvases and palm-sized miniatures. Stories, layers and texture, or simply the quiet potential of a landscape inspire these careful labours of love.
Ellie comes back again and again to landscapes; exploring the through-ways and quiet corners jam-packed with colours and textures, on foot with her sketchbook and in paint back in the studio. There’s something interesting in every wild corner, and she keeps painting until her works – little and large - are as rich and dynamic as the landscapes she sees; chasing the timeless, quiet power that draws her to a place.
More about Ellie:
Ellie grew up in Yorkshire, initially working in a gallery and picture framers. After briefly studying classical realism in Florence, she gained a 1st Class degree from Lancaster University
Now working from her studio in Princes House, a Georgian mansion in the heart of Truro, she creates her paintings, giclee prints and bespoke miniature frames.
Ellie fell into miniatures after her picture framer challenged her to fill a tiny practice frame he’d made. A member of the Hilliard Society of Miniaturists, she's still experimenting within this historic genre and her ‘cave-scapes’ have won two prestigious awards. She loves painting the Cornish coast in miniature; it pulls something different out of a monumental subject, showing the intricacy in its geology, its jewel-like colours, and concentrating its drama.
