Sue Lovell: Evolution

The work is a celebration of species diversity. Then from a platform of humbleness - an exploration of who are we? , where do we fit & settle?  I study 2 philosophy processes in this  ongoing search -  the ancient texts of yoga & the alchemists texts. These esoteric & profound texts are rich in symbolism and provide the inspiration for this work. The texts deal with the BIG question  ‘Who am I?’ This lofty quest needs a  guide & to fix things - a manual is required. These ancient texts provide reflections from learned scholars who have trodden the Path before us. For us as humans -each effort towards self discovery & expansion should begin & continue from a platform of humbleness - so many appalling mistakes have been made in the name of progress.

The works outward exploration is a celebration is of nature - birdsong, magnificent trees, diversity…The inner landscape exploration is from the premise -  we are but grains of sand, star dust - the microcosm reflecting the microcosm & the oscillation between matter & spirit.

Each work is an attempt to retrace & follow those fiery, watery & airborne elements that connect & define us.
