CFF: The Eternal Daughter (Relaxed Screening) (12A)

Dir Joanna Hogg | 2023 | 89 mins | English

Tilda Swinton wows in her double role as mother and daughter in Joanna Hogg's ghostly follow-up to The Souvenir: Part II. Swinton not only takes on the role of now middle-aged filmmaker Julie - a part originated by her real-life daughter, Honour Swinton Byrne - but also reprises the role of Julie's mother, Rosalind. The pair return to a former family home, which has since been converted into a hotel, in order to celebrate Rosalind's birthday - and also for Julie to work on her film. However, tensions eventually come to a head as a result of Julie and Rosalind's irreconcilable differences, as well as disturbances from the tragedies of Rosalind's past.

'a keenly discerning movie about the relationship of mother and daughter, who are bound together by a fierce love but kept apart by unbridgeable differences of character and of experience.' - The New Yorker

'The Eternal Daughter is a serious, gentle moment of self-revelation for Joanna Hogg.' - The Guardian

The Eternal Daughter is an afternoon Relaxed Screening (RS).

Everyone is welcome to these screenings,  but we have made them especially suitable to those who find standard screenings overwhelming such as autistic people, those with Dementia,  those with sensory issues. We will make the following adjustments:

The house lights are left on low and the sound turned down a little.

There are no pre-feature adverts or trailers and the film starts at the time advertised.

During the film, you can use non-distracting aids such as personal devices, ear defenders, fidget spinners and chewable jewellery etc.
