In this inaugural joint exhibition, ‘The Threads of Our Lives,’ ’Rosie & Rose’, are exploring natural or recycled resources that can be stitched, woven or otherwise changed or manipulated. This eclectic exhibition will aim to bring the story of how textiles have intervened in their lives from early life influences to today.
Rosie & Rose between them have 100 years of experience working with textiles. Both were taught traditionally and professionally in many textile formats. In the intervening years, they raised families and developed successful careers. In retirement they can now dedicate themselves to evolving their respective approaches in textiles making practical and more abstract art pieces. Wherever possible they both use sustainable and natural materials of UK origin, encouraging the terms of REUSING and RECYCLING of resources. Where possible REVIVING the use of native fibres, which have in recent years, been supplanted by synthetic fibres and imported wools. ‘The Treads of Our Lives’ Exhibition, presents their new, more abstract works which have been inspired by nature or the fragility and beauty of our world and the need to care for it. They plan to encourage the viewer to look deeper into their work for what are often hidden messages about our multi cultural society and the need to nurture the human relationship with the environment.
Rosie, aka Rosemary North, produces a variety of styles in her textile art, from detailed story telling strips to larger abstract pieces where the story maybe less obvious. Her ideas produce an eclectic mix of pieces using mainly reused and recycled cloth. She then uses a variety of methods to develop her ideas, using dyeing, painting or stitching to make her finished work, these often portray her various travel and life experiences and inspirations.
Daena Rose has returned to her first passion, fibre spinning, dyeing and creating beautiful woven items reflecting her love and inspiration found in nature. She encourages her audience to look deeply into her work and find the subtle engagement of design with the beauty of the art yarn she creates for each piece. Her raw materials are found as close to home as possible, from the fleece of British rare breed sheep to natural plant dyes. Daena is now engaging in growing her own dye plants in the Helford valley.
