LEE KELLGREN, DEREK HAYES & GRANT BUCKNELL: NEW ART FROM THE STUDIOS

Lee, Derek and Grant are all local artists with studios at The Old Grist Mill in Penryn. This joint exhibition shows a range of new work from portraits to contemporary landscape and abstracts – all displaying a creative use of different media.

Lee Kellgren :

Lee has enjoyed sharing the studios at the Grist Mill. Her artwork continues to develop themes of seasonal changes in the local South Cornwall landscape- working to capture changing colour and light. She paints on board and canvas in both acrylic and oils.

Derek Hayes :

Since his last exhibition, Derek has continued to explore abstract forms whilst integrating aspects of realism within them. Taking art historical references as a starting point, he has interrogated  form and content within a Modernist aesthetic.

Grant Bucknell:

2024 saw Grant working on an ongoing project to paint the portrait of every resident of Sancreed parish in far West Cornwall.  This has proved to be a wonderfully fruitful project that has brought together sitters of all ages and from all walks of life to sit for their portraits in the Village Hall.  Art thereby helping to forge links and friendships across the diverse community of a rural village.   His summer was spent drawing the figure and painting portraits in the beautiful environs of Salisbury Cathedral Close at the Sarum Atelier.  A truly inspirational experience learning the techniques used and developed by painters now long lost to time.
