Retrospect - Crowdfunding Launch
When we think of the First World War, we might only imagine the mud, trenches and carnage of the Western Front. But the First World War was truly a World War and fighting raged between the world powers for control across the globe.
Now, Henry Austwick, a young Cornwall based historian and filmmaker, is hoping to turn the spotlight on the untold story of one man’s experience of the First World War in the Middle East.
‘Retrospect’ is a new book that takes the reader on a journey from the barracks at Aldershot to the rocky shores of Gallipoli, over the sea to Egypt and, finally, across the desert to the gates of Jerusalem.
It is based on the first hand account, ‘Retrospect’, of the then Brigadier Badcock. Written down in the 1950s, it was rejected by a publisher at the time citing - ‘I feel the majority would think there is no real reason for bringing up the 1914 -1918 war now.’ - and the manuscript committed to a suitcase in the attic, until now.
In order to make the publication of ‘Retrospect’ happen, Henry needs your help, and is launching a crowdfunding campaign. The campaign launch is on the 11th April in The Poly Bar. You are very welcome from 19:30 and there will be a short presentation at 20:15 to hear more about the book. Have a glass of wine, some nibbles and support this great new project!
