This film from first-time director Bradley Cooper has proved to be a smash hit, with the Standard’s Matthew Norman calling it "a pitch perfect remake" in his five star write up.

A Star is Born won an Oscar for Best Original Song (Shallow) at the 2019 awards, with Lady Gaga making history for being the first person to win an Oscar, Grammy, BAFTA and Golden Globe in the same year. 

In this new take on the tragic love story, Bradley Cooper stars as seasoned musician Jackson Maine, who discovers and falls in love with struggling singer Ally (Lady Gaga). Tempted to give up on her dream to make it big as a singer, Jack coaxes her into the spotlight, and the two create a musical powerhouse. But even as Ally's career takes off, the personal side of their relationship is breaking down, as behind the scenes Jack fights a battle with his own demons.

This is the fourth remake of A Star Is Born - Cooper follows in the footsteps of William Wellman, James Mason and Kris Kristofersson (apparently Barbra Streisand’s first choice for the 1976 version was Elvis!) and Gaga follows in the footsteps of Janet Gaynor, Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand. Like its predecessors, it will bring tears to your eyes and is sure to be an instant classic for a new generation.
