Designing a Sensibility for Sustainable Clothing (S4S) is an AHRC-funded collaborative research project co-hosted by academics from the University of Exeter's Politics department and Wolverhampton University's Fashion School.
On Saturday 7th, from 10am -5pm our interactive exhibition will be open for public view. Come along and let us know whether it changes the way you think, feel and act in relation to your own clothing choices!
During the day we will be offering the following free making and mending workshops:
10am -12pm
1. Free-Form Dress-making with Kaya from Kaya's Wonder-wear
In this 2 hour workshop learn how to use your sewing machine to make a simple and flattering tunic dress which fits your form from recycled materials. All materials will be provided however participants are also encouraged to bring along any jersey fabrics they may have at home.
2. Starting my Journey towards Zero Waste with Caroline Baun.
Join Caroline from Gorgeous Yarns and learn more about making the most of the clothes you own. As well as sharing her own personal journey of a year without buying new clothes Caroline will help unleash fresh ideas on how to breathe new life into your old clothes with helpful tips into making the most of what you already have in your wardrobe. Participants are asked to bring up to 3 items to receive and share ideas on altering, mending, customising or for swapping.
2pm-4pm
1. Increase your confidence in sewing with Dr Thread.
Whether you new to the needle, haven't picked up a machine or thread in some time or keep encountering the same snag Dr Thread Design is here to help. Over the course of this 2 hour session Robin will share the tips and skills to help increase your confidence in both hand and machine sewing. All materials provided however if you have a project you are working on with you are encountering difficulties with please bring it along.
2. Making a Scrubbie from Fabric Scraps with Barbara Hampson.
Ditch the plastic and learn how to make a simple washing scrubbie from bits and pieces of fabric you might have around the house. All materials provided.
