Poly Pottery

In addition to https://thepoly.org/whats-on/workshops, The Poly Pottery provides kiln firing and clay sales! Buy your clay, make your work at home, then bring it to us for firing.

To book, just get in touch at info@thepoly.org. From there you'll arrange with Karl, our head potter, a convenient time to book the services you require. Karl is always happy to provide guidance and advice, so if you’re unsure, just drop us a line! Please always arrange your visit in advance as unplanned drop-offs can disrupt teaching.

Our small kiln measures 17 cubic inches, and our medium kiln measures 34 cubic inches.

Prices

Clay: £12.50 for 12kg

Small kiln firing: £30

Medium kiln firing: £45

Directions to The Poly Pottery

The pottery is at the back of The Poly on New Street. Keeping The Poly building on your right, walk down the sloping path past the ‘stage door’ sign. The door to the pottery is on the corner of the building you're passing on your left as you walk down the path.

New to pottery but fancy having a go?

During the first lockdown, we created a Poly Pottery Box: pinch pots, which can be delivered to your home containing all the clay, tools and guidance you need to learn how to make a pinch pot - a fundamental and versatile pottery technique. From pinch pots you can make bowls, pots and planters - and by joining two bowls together in a double pinch pot sculpture, you can make a figure to enter in our Clay Kemeneth Exhibition later this year. (Details to follow when we are able to reschedule our programme - again!)

And for every box purchased, The Poly will add another box into our community pottery project. This has been running since last summer to provide, via our community partners, free boxes to those who might not otherwise be able to access the wellbeing benefits of hands-on creativity.

The box contains air-dry clay which will dry at home but can also be kiln fired, if you’d like to make your creation food safe or experiment with glazes. And if you get the pottery bug, you can get more clay and firing services from The Poly Pottery!

The Poly Pottery Box is available to purchase from the Guild shop and  The Poly Guild online, alongside our beautiful collection of locally crafted ceramics - including The Poly’s very own pottery range!
