A collection of drawings and paintings inspired by diverse scenes found in south and west Cornwall. The exhibition ranges from stunning iconic landmarks to often overlooked depictions of people in everyday life, including Falmouth docks, shoppers at a local supermarket and repairing roads.
There is unnoticed, and often humorous, narrative to be found all around us. The very ordinary can be extraordinary. Julia studies the same subject many times and captures information using a camera or sketchbook. Then she selects certain elements to incorporate into one artwork, which becomes a time lapse story
A local artist with a studio based at Krowji in Redruth, Julia is inspired by artists such as Kit Wood, CRW Nevinson and Paul Nash.
Julia likes the slow drying quality of oil
because it allows time to blend, erase and layer the paint. She also enjoys
working with charcoal, again because it is such a flexible medium.
