Olia Hercules was born in the south of Ukraine in 1984. She left her home town Kakhovka at the age of twelve, when she moved first to Cyprus and then to the UK.
After training at Leiths School of Food and Wine and in restaurants including Ottolenghi, she published the Fortnum and Mason Award-winning Mamushka, a cookbook that celebrated her family recipes, from Ukraine and Moldova to Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
In 2022 she co-founded #CookForUkraine, a community and volunteer-led fundraising initiative designed to support the people and children impacted by the current conflict.
At the festival Olia will be talking about Home Food, her latest and most personal book yet, with local writer and Ukrainian campaigner Charlotte Hobson. Olia distils a lifetime of kitchen curiosity into her most loved recipes, drawing on her broad influences from all the places she has called home: her childhood in Ukraine; her years in Cyprus and Italy; and with her family in London.
