Is there a war inside of me?
BUNKER CABARET is a new performance by Hooligan Art Community that started life in the bomb shelters of Kyiv. Combining music, poetry, dance and film, this unique theatre event is a powerful exploration of love versus totalitarianism, and the personal conflicts of making art in a time of war. By turns ironic, raw, funny and devastating, the performance starkly reveals the artists’ individual experiences of the war while communicating a shared humanity, creating beautiful moments of connection between artists and audiences.
Hooligan Art Community’s 2023 tour of Bunker Cabaret will mark the anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Hooligan Art Community is an independent theatre company established in Kyiv, Ukraine, in 2019.
They make performances in non-traditional spaces that explore the dynamic relationship between actor and audience. The group has worked entirely outside of the state theatre system creating work that advocates for freedom of expression and equality. On 24 February 2022, the full-scale Russian invasion brought war to all of Ukraine. The company’s work was disassembled overnight. In August 2022, the artists reunited in the UK to create BUNKER CABARET.
Bunker Cabaret was created entirely with donations from private donors and crowdfunding supporters, providing the making and living costs for our company of displaced artists from Ukraine.
Produced in collaboration with Mahogany Opera and Andrea Ferran and developed with support from Britten Pears Arts and 101 Outdoor Arts. The 2023 UK tour is produced as part of the UK/Ukraine Season of Culture supported by the British Council and Ukrainian Institute. Performances at The Poly, Falmouth and The Ladder, Redruth are supported by impossible Producing and FEAST. Investment for FEAST comes from Arts Council England and Cornwall Council. The programme is managed by Creative Kernow.
