The magnetic draw of the wilderness with its changing moods of wind and element. The hardy resilience of the ancient cliff faces, the harsh beauty of the hunkered down heathers, the rhythmic sway of tough dune grasses. A solitary crumbling ruin with a story to tell, a cracked stone boundary meandering into nowhere. The feeling of connection and affinity, pathway back to ourselves.
In this body of work, Helen investigates the raw, resilient beauty of the places at the edge of the Cornish landscape and our connection to them. Building on previous landscape work, this collection is an expressive and experimental series fusing drawing, printmaking and mixed media techniques. Gestural charcoal drawing meets inky monotype patterns in the up close details of grasses and wet sands, alongside crafted lines shaping negative space into expansive open vistas, over valleys and along headlands.
